The Emerald Cathedral
A Novel of the Olympic Rain Forest

The Emerald Cathedral is a haunting tale of nature's
healing power, set in one of the most unique regions of the
United States - Washington State's Olympic Peninsula and its
rain forest.
Hoh Valley, the heart of the Peninsula, is home to elderly
Gordon and Caroline Dillard, two people who have spent their
lives in the valley and have watched the loss of the old-growth
forests around them. Their grandson, young Dale Dillard,
comes to their home to spend his summer vacation. The
Dillards are grieving over the loss of Dale's father in an auto
accident two years earlier.
During a near-fatal logging accident, Dale encounters a
mysterious and elusive creature, a creature so rarely seen, very
few people believe in its existence. The incident triggers a chain
of events involving the Dillards, loggers and Native Americans
that explore man's relationship with nature.
The Emerald Cathedral vividly describes the beauty of the
Olympic Rain Forest, the history of the region, and the power
of nature through a tremendous storm, all woven together in a
tale of spiritual healing and personal discovery.

A reader writes...
"While kicked back on this leisurely holiday, I picked up
and read a haunting novel set in the area, "The Emerald
Cathedral", by R. H. Jones. It's about several generations
of a local family's experiences with the sensations, feelings,
thoughts and spiritual connection with the forest. This
story opened my eyes and heart to a deeper dimension of
ecology. I hope our collective climbing will lead us toward
an awakening of our place in the world."
